Mercy Night School

While the Liberian government is making improvements in public education for children, there are few opportunities for adults who missed out on basic education during the civil wars that plagued Liberia in the late 1990's through early 2000's. To respond to this need, Schools for Justice founded the Mercy Night School in 2010.  Under the leadership of Kiazah Sherman and a dedicated teaching staff of 25 professionals, our student body has grown from to over 200 adult learners in grades K-12.  Students attend free nightly classes in language arts, history, math, and science, and we recently added a computer and science lab for student use.  The school is accredited by the Western African Examination Council, allowing graduates to sit for a high school equivalency exam at the end of their 12th grade year.  Graduates have historically done very well on this exam - in 2022, all graduates passed!

The Mercy Night School uses the day school building of the New Georgia United Methodist Church elementary school.  We've been fortunate to maintain a strong partnership for over a decade, and we just executed another agreement allowing the Mercy Night School to use the campus for another five years.  We anticipate this partnership to continue for years to come, and we will continue to complete campus improvement projects annually for the benefit of the night school and Methodist Church school as a display of our ongoing appreciation.
